Floor pillows
There are big differences in quality and construction of floor pillows and throw pillows. In contrast to a decorative throw pillow, which in some homes is meant to decorate, not to be used, floor pillows will be used, sat on and might even have to take a bit of abuse, when used in the family room or a kid's or teen's room. Therefore, when shopping for a floor pillow, make sure that it gives you more than looks for your shopping dollar. Remember, it will serve as seating, it might need to be laundered or dry cleaned at some point and needs to be more than just a decorative item. * Look for a floor pillow with removable pillow cover, after all, it is meant to be used, to lounge around on or to serve as extra seating when you have guests. You will want to be able to easily remove the insert and wash or dry clean your pillow cover. Look for an envelope enclosure or a cover with zipper. * Your floor pillow should be made of sturdy, durable fabric. Thin cotton material, slippery, light acrylic chenille, silk or acetate are not suitable for the construction of floor pillows. The cover will slip and slide on your pillow insert and soon it will look wrinkled, lumpy and unattractive. Look for cover constructed from sturdy, high quality upholstery fabric. It will last for years and you will be able to enjoy it without worrying about easy tearing. * Look for a floor pillow with a quality, removable insert. Many floor pillows do not have a removable insert and the pillow cover is directly filled with polyester fiber. They will serve their purpose for some time, but soon get lumpy or impossible to wash or dry clean and you will have no choice but to discard it. A quality insert is made from virgin polyester fiber or 95/5 feather down filling. It is important to have an insert that is well filled or 'overstuffed' and not too soft. After all, you want to be able to use your floor pillow as seating and an insert, which is too thin or too soft will make sitting on the floor uncomfortable. * Look for a floor pillow you find attractive and would love to see in your home for years to come.
